Do you read
The Artful Parent? She is one of my favorite art blog writers. I have learned a lot from her on how to parent artistically. She often does collages with her kids using
contact paper. I have wanted to this for some time, but kept forgetting to buy contact paper. I finally got some the other day and put a piece up for my two year old. Then I had my other two children scour old magazines for pictures of animals and cut them out. Grace still isn't the best at saying the animals or animal sounds (she thinks all animals say "moo" for some reason.) This was a really fun activity for all my children.

I just taped the contact paper to the wall so she had a work surface |
|
We have lots of magazines from wildlife Ohio and the Zoo with our membership so animal pictures were in abundance |
|
It was fun to watch her be entertained by the other kids as they said, "here Grace an elephant" and handed her the next animal |
The collage is still hanging in our family room. She goes up to it every now and then and says the animals she sees. She has also found other things around the house like stickers and added to her collage as time has gone by. Together we looked at it and were able to do counting games as well. I asked her to count how many fish were on it, how many birds, etc. It is a great way to talk and interact with a two year old. I am sure glad I saved my old magazines and glad to finally try a collage contact paper art project.

I bought contact paper a while ago to use for collages, but haven't gotten around to it. I love this animal idea, though, so maybe I will finally get motivated!

ReplyDeleteAh, contact papers....! Such a pity that we don't get anything like those here in India. I have requested a few friends to get for me if and when they go to the U.S. sometime..
ReplyDeleteor, probably hubby might be traveling too...! I wil have a long list for him to get for us - for our artsy activities... :)
I loved this idea, Laura. So simple to do and so beautiful when you put it up.
