I never thought the day would come when my little boy would need more than just a car or two to entertain him. From the youngest of age cars were his thing. He could line his cars up into a long line for hours upon hours. I have picture after picture of him just holding a little car in his hand.
The other day he was bored and begging for video games (his new obsession.) I brought up his bucket of cars and he looked at me like I was crazy. I had just bought some new tape that I felt would be better for tape resist art and thought it would be perfect to jazz up the car play.
It worked like a wonder and had all three of my kids very entertained and being very creative. I cut up the strips of tape (much like electric tape, but with colors) for them. I could have made the tracks and car town much better, but I had to resist and let them do it themselves.
My baby even got in on the action. She was probably more into this project than the other two!
This tape was really great. It is made by 3M and I got it off of amazon. It was called masking tape, but it actually seems more like electric tape because it had to be cut not ripped. I would have preferred a more masking type tape so that they could have been more creative by ripping it themselves.
That is great! They sell the colored electric tape at Target and it would be great for something like this. I will have to get some to keep on hand for when the girls get bored.

great project and something to try over and over! I did this with my kids and had them make street signs from the tape too.....and definitely a good idea to avoid the video games, they kill creativity! Thanks so much for sharing on Craft Schooling Sunday and for being an early bird!
ReplyDeleteSo fun, Laura! I have seen this kind of tape at home depot, too. It comes in all kinds of colors. I had forgotten about it until now, I haven't ever bought any but now I thnk I will.
ReplyDeleteI recently saw some grey tape that had dotted white lines down the middle for kids to use as roads! I can't find it here in Australia, but I pinned it to one of my pinterest boards I think. Maybe I'll just try your coloured version instead :-)
