Cardboard Drum Set

Yesterday James wanted to have a fruit snack, but they were all gone.  Luckily the empty box sparked some imagination.  He said he wanted to make a drum out of the box.  So we covered the box with white paper.  I thought that was going to be the end of it, but he pushed and pushed for more.  He wanted two symbols and two more drums!  I got in on the creativity and we made something wonderful together.  He wanted the symbols and the box drum to have a kick part to it, but I am not that inventive.  He explained to me over and over how to make the contraption and I just had to tell him that I couldn't make real machines.  A couple of chopsticks later and my drummer boy was happy as can be.
James did all the cutting.
James drawing on the drums.  After he drew this picture for me he explained it like this, "this part goes bum and then you go over here and it goes dum dum and then bum again over here."  It was like he was hearing some rhythm in his head.
I used a hot glue gun to glue it all together and used hot glue on some sticks with pie tins to make the symbols
James then kept decorating
I have not seen him try this method of coloring before.  I was really happy he was trying something new.
He loves it.  We spent a lot of the morning watching child geniuses playing drums so he could see what they do.  He loved it.
Grace likes playing on them too
